Team Emotive have entered one of the world’s most difficult ocean rowing challenges – Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge which is an unsupported 3000 mile crossing of the Ocean from La Gomera  Canary Islands, Spain to Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua & Barbuda. 

Some key facts about the challenge

  • More people have climbed Mount Everest than have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean

  • Rowers will row for 2 hours and then rest for 2 hours constantly

  • Each rower will burn over 5000 calories per day

  • Every day rowers are expected to drink 10ltrs of water

  • 800 biodegradable wipes will be used by each crew member during the crossing

  • The boat will have a total of 220 days food onboard at race start

  • 2020 race saw four boats have their hulls pierced by Marlin strikes

  • All rubbish will be checked on arrival in Antigua - missing rubbish will result in disqualification

  • There is no toilet onboard - rowers must use a bucket

  • Rowers will have to deal with extreme fatigue, salt sores, muscle wastage, sea sickness, blisters and many other medical issues caused by extreme Ocean Rowing

  • The weight of each rowers food onboard at race start will be approximately 41kg
